Break From Frames Back to Frames

Dear Fellow Educators:

As a lifelong resident of Union Parish, I am pleased to have an opportunity to work together with other stakeholders to continue to move our parish schools forward. Serving as a teacher, coach, and administrator for the past 17 years I have been able to see many sides of the educational process. During those years I have gained a great deal of satisfaction in being a part of the Union Parish School system as well as a deep respect for the responsibility of leadership.

Educating children affects everyone in a community whether or not they have children in the school system. Businesses, local governments, civic groups and even property values can be and often are affected by the perception of the schools. It determines the educational level of the labor force, which ultimately governs the local job market. A highly trained workforce enables the creation of jobs that will allow our young graduates to find employment locally rather than leaving the area in search of better jobs.

A shared vision of what must be accomplished in our school system is my top priority. We have been able to lead this state in many technology initiatives over the past few years and have enjoyed the recognition it has brought to our schools. Although technology is becoming more prevalent in today's schools and society, technology will never drive education. Education should drive technology. Partnerships and alliances can and should be formed with state and local resources to further our common goals. This, coupled with the untapped potential of this parish, make this an exciting time in education.

Successful team building can only be created through loyalty and dedication. Past experience has shown me that amazing things can be accomplished when no one cares who gets the credit. That is the type of teamwork we need in Union Parish. As we work together to improve the academic achievement of our children, each community will be positively impacted.

Now is a critical time for our schools and I believe that we are prepared for the task. I know that much is possible because we share common goals and aspirations for our parish. I look forward to working with the Union Parish School Board and all teachers and staff for the betterment of our community.

Sincerely,

Tom Snell
